One Arrested in Theft From Stephens Co.

A multi-county investigation leads to one arrest.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said it all started on October 15 when Franklin County Sheriff’s Office deputies contacted his office about a reported stolen vehicle that was spotted at a location on Gumlog Road in Franklin County.

“They had learned the location of a vehicle that was reported stolen from us (Stephens County) when we gave out a lookout earlier in the day,” said Shirley. “When deputies arrived on scene, they located a 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck that had been taken.”

Shirley said witnesses on scene reported that the driver was 36-year-old Glen Christian Krauch of Alto.

The sheriff said that Stephens County Sheriff’s Office deputies and investigators then searched throughout the night and into the next morning attempting to locate Krauch.

According to the sheriff, the Hart County Sheriff’s Office then contacted Stephens County investigators to say they had Krauch in custody on felony charges from their jurisdiction.

Shirley said Hart County investigators found things that had been reported stolen from Stephens County.

“During his arrest, he was found in possession of a long rifle and several other items that were reported stolen from a vehicle off of Suttles Road here in Stephens County,” said Shirley. “During the continued investigation, some of my deputies also learned the location of an all-terrain vehicle that had reported stolen from a residence on Jenkins Ferry Road,” said Shirley.

The sheriff said Krauch was charged with two counts of Felony Theft of Taking and one count of Felony Entering Auto.

At last report, Krauch was being held in the Hart County Jail.

Shirley said Krauch will be transported to the Stephens County Jail after his release from Hart County.

The sheriff went on to say that all of the items were recovered and returned to their respective owners.
