One Arrested In Drug Investigation At SCHS

One person faces a drug charge after an investigation at Stephens County High School.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said that high school administration contacted the School Resource Officer on September 29 about an issue.

“According to our School Resource Officer, the administration at Stephens County High School had some information that there were some illegal drugs being possessed and/or sold in a classroom,” said Shirley.

Shirley said the School Resource Officer than accompanied high school administrators to the classroom in order to investigate.

“The five individuals that were suspected were taken out of the classroom,” said Shirley. “School administrators searched each student and the only one that was found to have any illegal contraband possessed some marijuana in his shirt pocket. To have anyone of illegal drugs on school grounds is a felony.”

The sheriff said 17-year-old Timothy Hunter Bennett of Fieldale Road, Toccoa was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana.

Shirley said Bennett posted a $3,000 property bond on October 1 and is awaiting a court date.
