Old Goodwill Building in Stephens Co. Likely To Be Sold

Stephens County is moving closer to selling an industrial building in its inventory.

At a called meeting on Monday, the Development Authority voted to allow the sale of the Goodwill building on Clary Connector in Eastanollee to move ahead.

Stephens County Development Authority Executive Director Tim Martin said this action was necessary to get all of the paperwork in order.

“We have an offer on the Goodwill building and closing is scheduled for April 6,” said Martin. “That is prior to our next scheduled meeting, so we called a meeting this (Monday) morning to authorize our chairman and secretary to sign the real estate closing documentation.”

Martin said an industrial client is looking to purchase the building for a total of $300,000.

All proceeds from the sale would go to Stephens County.

Last year, the Development Authority and Stephens County reached an intergovernmental agreement fo rthe Development Authority to act as the county’s agent in selling the building.

Martin said years ago, former State Representative Jeanette Jamieson worked to obtain partial financing through the state for that building on Clary Connector to be used for Goodwill Industries and when Goodwill vacated the building, the ownership of the building reverted back to Stephens County because funding came from a government source, in this case, the state of Georgia.
