October 15 Tax Deadline Approaching For Those Who Requested Extensions

The deadline is approaching for those who requested an extension on their federal income taxes to file those with the Internal Revenue Service.

October 15 is the last day for those who requested and received an extension on their federal income taxes to file those with the IRS.

Internal Revenue Service Spokesperson Mark Green said that people who have still not filed should begin making those final preparations to do so.

“Now is the time to go ahead and gather those documents that you have held on and go ahead and review the information,” said Green.

The IRS said that more than a quarter of the nearly 13 million taxpayers who requested an automatic six-month extension this year have yet to file.

Green said for those who have not filed yet, they should strongly consider filing their taxes electronically.

“By doing it that way, you can cut down on errors,” said Green. “It is fast, safe, and accurate.”

The IRS said of the more than 143 million returns received so far this year by the IRS, 85 percent of them, or nearly 122 million, have been e-filed.
