Authorities in Oconee County, South Carolina have said they consider a Friday morning fire near the Georgia-South Carolina state line a case of suspected arson.

Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Jimmy Watt said that investigators are following leads regarding the case at this time.

The fire occurred early Friday morning on Cleveland Pike Road in Oconee County.

A passer-by apparently reported the fire to Oconee County authorities just after 5 a.m. Friday.

Shiloh Fire Department from Stephens County was called out to assist firefighters from Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department, as well as other Oconee County fire stations.

Officials in Oconee County said the fire heavily damaged the living quarters of an old farmhouse, but added nobody was injured as no one was home at the time.

Oconee County fire officials did say that an estimated 80 percent of the one-story structure was lost to the fire, as well as contents in the home.
