Northeast GA Bank to Celebrate Ayers’ 73-Year Anniversary with Company

MJ KNEISER, WLHR
She’s known as the “First Lady of Lavonia” and today the bank where she has worked for over 70 years will be honoring her as she celebrates her 90th birthday.
Margaret Ayers has worked for Northeast Georgia Bank continually since 1944 when she was 17.
Bank Assistant Vice President Henry Kesler (KEYS-ler) tells WNEG Radio the bank plans to surprise Miss Ayers with a big birthday cake this morning and they invite the public to drop in to the Lavonia bank branch to wish her well and enjoy a piece of cake.
Even at 90, Margaret Ayers remains very active in the town where she was born and raised, not only working at the bank every day but also serving on a number of community organizations, such as the Lions Club, Lavonia Garden Club, the Lavonia Historic Preservation Committee and the Library Board.
She has also authored two books on the history of the City of Lavonia.
Her late husband, Herman, served at one time as mayor of Lavonia.
And if you can’t make today’s drop-in birthday event at the Northeast Georgia Bank in Lavonia, you are welcome to stop by Saturday to another anniversary celebration in Margaret Ayers’ honor.
That will take place at the Lavonia Train Depot on Main St. from 1 to 4 p.m. and the public is invited.
