Northeast GA Animal Shelter to Reopen Today

After a two week quarantine due to parvo, the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter will reopen to the public this week.

Shelter Director Tammie Jordinias says they shelter can reopen starting today.

“We have been under quarantine for 14 days because of a puppy that came in by animal control that seemed to be fine and then broke with parvo a couple days later,” said Jordinias.

With a possible influx of animals being taken in after the two week closure, the shelter is asking the public to call before bringing animals in this week if at all possible.

“We just ask everyone to please try and call us ahead of time to let us know,” said Jordinias. “We know we’re going to get swamped with a lot of animals and the importance is still saving each and every life that comes in the  door. We just ask to give us a heads up of what you have. We appreciate all the public and everyone that’s been helping us.”

During the quarantine, no other dogs were found to be infected with parvo.

“We only had the one puppy to break. No one else got sick, everybody has seemed fine and healthy,” said Jordinias. “Quarrantine is over and we will resume as normal on Tuesday.”

For those interested in adopting an animal or those who have an animal in need of the shelter’s services.

“We’re here Tuesday-Saturday from 11-4. Our phone number is 706-356-5363,” said Jordinais. “We have lots of animals here for adoption and we have lots that we have coming in.”

Jordinais also thanked the public for their patience during the quarantine.

“We truly appreciate everyone’s cooperation. It’s not been easy for us either. We are here to help and it really hurt us to not be able to help the public and take in all the strays,” said Jordinais. “We can’t wait to be back open and doing what we love to do.”

Again the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter will reopen today.
