No New Qualifiers in Stephens Co. Tuesday

Day two of municipal qualifying in Toccoa and Martin brings no new candidates.

Neither Toccoa City Clerk Fredda Wheeler nor the Stephens County Probate and Registrar’s Office reported anyone heading into their offices on Tuesday to sign up to run in municipal elections set for this November.

So far, only incumbent commissioners have qualified in both municipalities.

In Toccoa, Terry Carter has qualified to run for re-election to Post 1 of the City Commission and Gail Fry has qualified to run for re-election to Post 4.

City Commissioner David Austin, who has not qualified yet, has said he would run for re-election to Post 2.

Moving to Martin, Don Foster has qualified to run for re-election as Mayor, while Mark Gearhart and Harold Alexander have both qualified for re-election as council members in Martin.

Qualifying for both the Toccoa and Martin municipal elections continues through Friday at 4:30 p.m.

In Toccoa, candidates wishing to qualify for one of the three seats up for election this year should see Toccoa City Clerk Fredda Wheeler at Toccoa City Hall.

The qualifying fee is $252.

For Martin, qualifying is at the Stephens County Probate and Registrar’s Office, located in Room 108 downstairs in the Stephens County Government Building in downtown Toccoa.

The qualifying fee for mayor is $120 and the qualifying fee for council member is $90.
