Nik Wallenda Reflects on Great Grandfather’s Legacy

By Charles Robertson, WRBN Radio, Clayton

Nik Wallenda chats about his great-grandfather and Karl Wallenda’s historic walk across the Tallulah Gorge.

While in Rabun County for the Skywalk Celebration at the VIP Meet and Greet on Friday morning, Nik called the walk across Tallulah Gorge possibly the greatest walk of Karl’s career, and Nik is always looking to build upon the legacy that Karl left.

“Truth be told, my great grandfather did great things all over the world and built a name that we all still remember, including of course the Tallulah Gorge walk. My goal was, if I’m going to go out and do this, I’m going to do great things and I’m going to make sure that as Karl Wallenda was a household name, now Nik Wallenda and the Wallenda’s will continue to remain a household name and build that brand.”

In doing that, Nik has recreated several of the stunts that Karl attempted many years ago.

“My favorite walk would be definitely recreating the one the took my great-grandfathers life in Puerto Rico back in ’78. That was definitely the most meaningful walk to me. Although I’ve accomplished so many others that are, you know, known around the world way more than that one, that’s the one that meant the most to me.”

Nik said that he definitely plans to recreate Karl’s walk across the Tallulah Gorge in the future.
