President Dr. Gail Thaxton announced recently that Kathie Ivester of Clarkesville has accepted the position.
Officials at North Georgia Tech say Ivester has a strong background in technical education.
As Dean for Academic Affairs since 2008, Ivester has been overseeing instructional programs.
According to North Georgia Technical College, she has been a leader in a number of college-wide strategic initiatives such as Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges accreditation, articulation agreements with four-year institutions, program advisory committees, and Complete College Georgia. In addition, the school says Ivester has been a member of the TCSG Georgia Occupational Award for Leadership and Rick Perkins Award for Excellence state planning committees for several years.
Ivester was also a Curriculum Program Specialist for the Technical College System of Georgia from 2007 to 2008 and North Georgia Technical College’s Medical Assisting Program Director/Instructor from 1997 to 2007.
Her other work experience includes management consulting, laboratory manager/clinical practice manager for Habersham Internal Medicine, and quality assurance laboratory director/blood bank supervisor at Habersham County Medical Center.
She also taught at NGTC as an adjunct instructor.
Ivester has a Master’s of Public Administration, a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Piedmont College, and an AAS in Medical Technology from Truett-McConnell.
School officials say that her diverse experience coupled with her deep ties to the local community and a strong passion for higher education, will enhance the college’s mission to deliver a highly-skilled workforce for the region’s businesses and industries.
