The announcement was made at a banquet in Atlanta last month

The Rick Perkins Award is judged from a pool of 25 technical colleges throughout the state of Georgia. The winner is selected out of 9 finalists that are picked from a regional competition. In place since 1991, it is designed to recognize technical college instructors who make significant contributions to technical education through innovation and leadership in their fields.

In the last year, school officials said McFarlin was highly involved in the restructuring of the learning support math classes at North Georgia Technical College, adding that this shift towards more individualized teaching has shown positive results with many students.

North Georgia Technical College President Dr. Gail Thaxton said that McFarlin’s achievement is a point of pride for the school.

Meanwhile, McFarlin said that she is proud to represent North Georgia Technical College.
