NGTC Hires New Chief of Police

February 26, 2013

North Georgia Technical College has a new campus police chief.

The school announced recently that Tony Free of Rabun County started in that post last month.

Free comes to North Georgia Technical College with more than 25 years of experience, including positions with the Department of Corrections, Clayton Police Department, and the Sky Valley Police Department.

Chief Free is a P.O.S.T., or Peace Officer Standards and Training, certified officer and a P.O.S.T. certified instructor with advanced training as a firearms instructor. His many positions in the public safety sector include investigations, Department Captain, Assistant Chief, and Chief of Police. He also worked as mutual aid for the Mountain Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force as a SWAT team member serving search warrants.

School officials said that they are glad to have Free on board, noting that he has already demonstrated a great appreciation for maintaining a Campus Police Department that is ready to assist students, staff and faculty while providing a police presence that is focused on the safety of everyone on campus.
