NGTC Announces Rick Perkins Award Winner

Emergency Medical Services Program Director and Instructor Charles Hill of Cleveland is this year’s Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Education at North Georgia Technical College.

Each year faculty and staff at North Georgia Technical College nominate instructors who exemplify excellence in teaching.

The nominees participate in a series of interviews which help determine the winner and the instructor chosen to receive the award will go on to represent the college at the Technical College System of Georgia’s Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Education competition in the spring.

Hill has been employed with North Georgia Technical College since 2012.

Dedicated to technical education, NGTC, and to each student who comes through his program, school officials say Hill works diligently to keep his program up to date with industry demands. He sets goals for continuous improvement and insists on high quality program delivery.

Hill received a plaque and was presented with a cash prize made possible by donations from the Blairsville/Union County Rotary and the Clarkesville Kiwanis organizations.

Others instructors nominated this year include: Allyson Smith, General Education English; Sean McAuley, General Education English; Paul Long, Computer Information Systems; Tim Green, Accounting; and Jack Treadman, General Education Mathematics.

The Rick Perkins Award has been an ongoing statewide event since 1991, and is designed to recognize technical college instructors who make significant contributions to technical education through innovation and leadership in their fields.

Formerly known as the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence, the award was renamed in honor and memory of Thomas “Rick” Perkins, an instructor at West Central Technical College, who received the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence prior to his untimely death.
