North Georgia Technical College-EAGLE Delegate Rocio GuzmanA Clarkesville resident is North Georgia Technical College’s EAGLE winner for this year.

Rocio Guzman of Clarkesville has been selected as the school’s Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education, or EAGLE, winner.

The Technical College System of Georgia, through its Office of Adult Education, sponsors the annual EAGLE competition each year.

North Georgia Tech officials said the program is designed to create greater awareness of educational opportunities that are available in local communities and to foster greater involvement in lifelong learning.

Through a series of competitions, Guzman gave a short speech and interviewed with three judges, answering questions regarding her studies, progress, hopes and dreams.

Guzman, a single mother of two, completed her GED and is currently a student in the criminal justice program at North Georgia Technical College, with plans of becoming a paralegal.

North Georgia Tech Adult Education Instructor Sandra Adair said she nominated Guzman because of her superior achievement in adult education as a student in her class.

Meanwhile, the school’s Dean of Adult Education, Shelby Ward, said they know that Guzman will represent the college well at the state convention.

As the North Georgia Tech winner, Guzman will attend the EAGLE conference on March 16 and 17.
