New Year’s Holiday Weekend Continuing

The New Year’s Day holiday travel period continues in Georgia.

According to the latest numbers from the Georgia Department of Public Safety, six people have been killed so far this New Year’s Day holiday weekend on the roadways.

Two of those fatalities reportedly happened in the Gainesville post, while another reportedly took place in the Athens post coverage area.

The New Year’s holiday travel period continues through midnight tonight.

Meanwhile as a reminder, both Toccoa City Hall and Stephens County government offices are closed today in observance of the New Year’s holiday.

In the city of Toccoa, routes for garbage and recyclables scheduled to be picked up today will be picked up on Tuesday, January 3.

The city says it will pick up commercial garbage as usual.

However, yard waste and other items will not be picked up.
