The Toccoa-Stephens County Library will have a new library manager at the start of the year.
Last Thursday, the Toccoa-Stephens County Library Board unanimously approved the selection of Emily McConnell as the library manager of the Toccoa-Stephens County Library to replace Michelle Austin.
Austin has announced her retirement effective December 31.
McConnell currently works in the library system in Gainesville and Hall County.
Library Board Chairman John Dickerson said the board feels it has made an excellent choice.
“Mrs. McConnell has a great deal of experience in library work and she works for the library in Gainesville and has for the past number of years,” said Dickerson. “We are delighted for her to be in our community. She is going to come sometime (this month) and let Michelle Austin show her the ropes and what we do at the library and she will become our full-time manager effective January 1, 2013. We are going to arrange a time for the public to get to meet her. I think everybody will be very impressed. She was extremely impressive.”
Last month prior to the vote, the library board announced that it had determined and concluded that McConnell was the best qualified and only candidate under serious consideration for the position.
Meanwhile, the library has announced that the community is invited to a reception to be held on December 14 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Toccoa-Stephens County Library meeting room in honor of Michelle Austin.
