A new mural is about to be completed in downtown Hartwell.

The mural on the side of a building on Forest Avenue at the intersection with Franklin Street in Hartwell should be completed sometime this week.

Hartwell Downtown Development Authority Executive Director Henley Cleary said the artist is Lorie Sholtus of Douglasville.

Cleary said the mural will depict different historic buildings and businesses throughout the community.

She went on to say that the mural was paid for in part in a very interesting way.

“Part of the way we paid for it is that you can purchase and opportunity to have your name or someone’s else name hidden within the mural,” Cleary explained. “We’ve had a lot of people participate in that. So we will have a plaque with the name of who made the donation and the name that was hidden. It will be a fun way to come down and try to find your name.”

Cleary said having one’s name in the mural is a nice way to be a part of the history of Hartwell.
