New Big A Principal Named

The Stephens County School System has a new Principal in place for one of its elementary schools for next year.

Tuesday, the Stephens County Board of Education unanimously hired John Stith as the new Principal for Big A Elementary School.

Stith said he is looking forward to joining the Stephens County school system.

“We are excited,” said Stith. “We are from this area. My wife and I are looking forward to coming back to Northeast Georgia. We went to K through 12 up here. My in-laws live up here. My parents live up here. We are excited to bring our kids back up here. My son is going to go to Big A with me next year, so we are excited.”

Big A Elementary School houses Pre-K and Kindergarten in the Stephens County school system.

Stith said he is looking forward to leading a school consisting of those grade levels.

“I am currently the Assistant Principal at Chattahoochee (Elementary School) in Gwinnett County,” said Stith. “I am the Pre-K through second grade Assistant Principal.”

Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey said that the school system is excited to have Stith join the team at Big A Elementary, noting that he and his wife are from the northeast Georgia area.

Stith replaces Dr. Phyllis Carson, who is retiring from the principal’s position at Big A Elementary School at the end of this school year.

The Stephens County school system will also be looking to fill the principal’s position at Stephens County Middle School now as current Principal Joel Strickland was approved to move into an Assistant Superintendent’s position.
