The Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter is the recipient of an unexpected gift in its Christmas stocking this year.

Last month, the Pilot Club of Lavonia gave the shelter a check for $300.

Lavonia Pilot Club President Brenda Rabbit says the club has been keenly aware of the financial situation the shelter is in and just wanted to help.

Shelter director Sheri Lockhart accepted the donation on behalf of the shelter and its board.

Lockhart says that every donation, regardless of the amount is much appreciated.

She adds that the money will come in handy.

According to Lockhart, the money will go in to the operations account under fundraising and will help with the shelter’s day-to-day operations, as well as with paying utilities.
