Municipal Qualifying Also Underway in Franklin Co.

Qualifying is also underway in Franklin County for municipal races.

Qualifying for city council seats in Carnesville, Lavonia, Canon, Royston, and Franklin Springs got underway Monday.

In Carnesville, two city council seats and the mayor seat are up for grabs. The two seats open are currently held by Gene Eavenson and Sid Ginn respectively.

Carnesville mayor Harris Little qualified on Monday to run for re-election.

Little said he has a couple of big projects he has yet to see completed.

“One of them is the joint county-city sewer project, and the other is the Central Franklin Industrial Park that is being built right outside of town,” Little said. “Actually, the Industrial Building Authority is building it, but the City is providing the water and sewer. Those are the two things that I want to complete before I hang it up around here.”

Qualifying takes place at Carnesville City Hall and runs through Wednesday at 4 p.m.

The qualifying fee for the City Council and Mayor seats is $35.

In Canon, two city council seats are open.

Seats held by Bobby Locke and Charles Bradley are open with a qualifying fee of $35.

Those wishing to run should qualify at Canon City Hall through Wednesday.

In Lavonia, three seats are open, two on the City Council and the Mayor seat now held by Mayor Ralph Owens.

Both the City Council Post 3 and Post 4 seats are up for grabs. Those seats currently held by councilman Eddie Floyd Jr. and Harold Harbin respectively.

Qualifying runs through Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in Lavonia City Hall.

The fee to run for City Council and Mayor in Lavonia is $35.

Over in Royston, three City Council seats are open this election.

They include the city council seats currently held by Lee Strickland, Wayne Braswell and Keith Turman.

The qualifying fee is $90 and as of Monday, all three incumbents have qualified, according to City l.

Citizens who wish to run for any one of the Royston City Council seats should go to the Royston City Hall to obtain the required qualifying paperwork.

And in Franklin Springs, two city council seats are open.

The  seats of Jim Ganey and Bill Bell are up for grabs.

Qualifying takes place through 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Franklin Springs City Hall with a qualifying fee of $43.20.
