Multiple Injuries in By-pass Wreck Friday
Multiple people are injured after a three-vehicle accident this morning on the Toccoa By-pass.
The accident occurred around 11:30 a.m.
According to the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol, a 2007 Dodge Caravan driven by 61-year-old Hilda Jean Smallwood of Cornelia was traveling north on the by-pass, while a 2000 Chevy Impala driven by 44-year-old Jeffrey James Stielow of Carnesville and a Hart EMC truck driven by 46-year-old Stevan Lamar Cheek of Toccoa were traveling in opposite directions on Georgia Highway 63/106.
The GSP stated that the Hart EMC truck moved forward, but stopped before the other two vehicles collided as they both entered the intersection.
Authorities said Smallwood’s vehicle struck Stielow’s vehicle on the right side and those two vehicles continued on, making contact with the Hart EMC truck.
According to the GSP, Smallwood and Stielow were both taken to Stephens County Hospital, along with one passenger in Stielow’s vehicle.
A second passenger in Stielow’s vehicle, 18-year-old Erica Beth Stielow of Carnesville, was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Cheek and a passenger in the Hart EMC truck, 29-year-old Robert Allen Carroll of Toccoa, were not injured.
No charges or citations have been issued at this time, according to authorities.
