Local law enforcement are encouraging high school students to make the right choices this Prom weekend.
This morning, the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, Toccoa Police Department, Georgia State Patrol, Stephens County EMS Service, Toccoa Fire Department, Stephens County High School, and others will stage a “mock wreck” during the early morning hours at the entrance to Stephens County High School campus.
According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, this year’s event is entitled “Friends for Life”.
Shirley said that this event is to educate young people on the dangers and consequences of someone who is impaired while driving.
The sheriff said authorities hope that it will be an eye opening, educational event to influence high school students to make the “right choice”.
Shirley went on to say that it is his hope that each student will use good judgment and have a safe and memorable prom night this year.
The Stephens County High School prom is Saturday night.
