Mobile Home Taxes Due April 1

For those who pay mobile home taxes in Stephens County, there is a change in the due date that starts this year.

Stephens County Tax Commissioner Dene Hicks said that those who pay mobile home taxes must pay those sooner as the due date was moved up a month due to a change in state law.

“For several years now, it has been May 1 and that has changed,” said Hicks. “Legislation was passed last year.”

The deadline is now April 1, instead of May 1, according to Hicks.

Hicks said that tax bills went out at the end of December and the change in the due date was noted on those bills.

She said that there are penalties for those who do not pay their mobile home taxes on time.

“The penalty is 10 percent the day after they are due, it is a minimum of $5,” said Hicks. “The interest accrues just like property tax, one percent interest that will be added the day after as well.”

Hicks said that people can pay their mobile home taxes either in person at the Tax Commissioner’s office or online at www.stephenscountytax.com.
