Plans are in place for next year’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday celebration in Stephens County.
Everything gets started during the second weekend in January.
Activities are set to begin on Saturday, January 11 with an art contest at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Toccoa and the annual talent and fashion contest at 5 p.m. at the Schaefer Center in downtown Toccoa.
Then on Sunday, January 12, it will be the oratorical and essay contest at 3 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Toccoa.
Activities resume the following weekend.
On Saturday, January 18 at 3 p.m. at the Reach Out Time Chapel in Martin, there will be “Senior Citizen Reflections.”
Moving to Sunday, January 19, Friendship Baptist Church in Toccoa will host a musical extravaganza at 5 p.m.
Then on Monday, January 20, Trinity C.M.E. Church in Toccoa will once again host the Interfaith Service at noon followed by the March to Toccoa City Hall at 2 p.m. on January 20.
The final activity in conjunction with Dr. King’s birthday is the American Dream Banquet, which is scheduled for 5 p.m. on February 22 at a place to be announced.
