Marquee Work Taking Place At Schaefer Center

The new Ritz Theatre marquee for the Schaefer Center is going up.

Installation of the new marquee began Thursday in downtown Toccoa as crews began hoisting it into place.

Toccoa Main Street Director Connie Tabor said it is exciting to see the marquee becoming a reality.

“The color looks like it is going to blend very nicely in with the facade of the building, so we are excited to see how the pieces come together and another restoration event for the Schaefer Center,” said Tabor. “We definitely want to mention the Fox Theater Institute. This would not have been possible without their generous grant funds that they have provided. We matched it one to one to make this marquee become a reality and it is just great to see it today.”

Tabor said crews are expected to finish work on the marquee today.

Next Thursday, the city of Toccoa will officially unveil the new marquee with a program.

The event is called “Puttin’ on the Ritz” and it will get started at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday with a reception, program, and re-creation of an old photo of the old Ritz Theatre.

Then at 7 p.m., the marquee installation will be celebrated with the showing of a free movie, Disney-Pixar’s “Inside Out,” co-sponsored by the Toccoa-Stephens County Library.
