Man Enters Plea in Battery Case

April 18, 2013

A Stephens County man will spend seven years in prison after entering a plea in a battery case involving a child.

According to court documents, 26-year-old Joseph Andrew Graham of Eastanollee entered an Alford plea last month on a charge of aggravated battery in Stephens County Superior Court.

A defendant does not admit guilt with an Alford plea, but acknowledges that enough evidence may exist for a conviction.

According to the indictment, Graham was accused of causing bodily harm to a child.

Besides seven years in prison, Graham will also serve eight years probation.

Prosecutors did drop two other charges, a second aggravated battery count and a cruelty to children count, against Graham following his plea.

In addition, prosecutors dropped charges against a second person indicted in this case. That person is identified as 24-year-old Beckylee Annette Caswell of Eastanollee.
