Main Street Toccoa Preparing For Scarecrow Contest

Main Street Toccoa is hosting its sixth annual Scarecrow Contest this October.

According to Main Street Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby, businesses, organizations, families, and individuals are invited to put up scarecrows in front of their home or business by October 1.

The scarecrows are to stay up through November 7 and 8.

Crosby said the scarecrows should represent the business or organization that puts them up.

Also, participants will have to register with Main Street to be included in the contest.

All participants will be given a sign to placed with the scarecrow display and will be included on the list of participants.

The scarecrows will be up to greet visitors for Currahee Military Weekend and the Toccoa Harvest Festival.

Crosby said she is excited about this year’s scarecrow contest.

“We are really looking forward to it again this year,” said Crosby. “It just brightens up the whole county and last year, we had about 40 entries. We would like to have 50 entries this year at least. It helps to decorate our downtown, especially with visitors coming throughout time period. We ask people to put up scarecrows that can withstand the weather because they will be outside for a whole month.”

Crosby went on to say that once again this year, people will have the chance to vote for their favorite scarecrow with top vote getters getting prizes.

“Again this year, we will be doing voting for the contest online,” said Crosby. “There are QR codes on the signs themselves that will take them directly on the phone to the voting or they can go to the website.”

Voting will also be available at various local businesses.
