Madison Shuts Out Stephens in Region Baseball

Madison County freshman third baseman Logan Brown drove in Noah Rogers in the top of the fifth inning Wednesday to give the Madison County Red Raiders a 1-0 win over the Stephens County Indians in Region 8-AAAA baseball play at the Reservation.

Rogers led off the fifth by getting hit by a pitch before scoring on Brown’s two-out single.

The Indians then left the bases loaded in the sixth inning and left two on the seventh inning without scoring a run.

For the game, Stephens County left nine men on base.

Madison County sophomore Dylan Gentry went six innings for the Red Raiders to get the win, giving up just four hits and striking out four.

Evan Rumsey took the tough-luck loss for the Indians, pitching his second complete game in his last three starts and allowing just one run and five hits while striking out five.

The run allowed by Rumsey in the fifth broke a string of 18 2/3 scoreless innings over his last three starts.

With the loss, Stephens County falls to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in Region 8-AAAA.

The win moves Madison County to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in the region.

Stephens County and Madison County will face off again on Friday, this time in Danielsville.
