A local church is holding an event next week on September 11 to show appreciation for the emergency personnel and law enforcement of Toccoa and Stephens County.
The Pointe Church is holding a meal and recognition event next Wednesday in honor of the Sheriff’s Office, Toccoa Police Department, EMS, Stephens County Rescue Unit, Toccoa Fire Department, Stephens County Volunteer Fire Fighters, Georgia State Patrol, and other first responders.
Austin Ivester with the Pointe Church said the church wanted to hold the event to thank these men and women for what they do and felt that next week would be an appropriate time to do so.
“It is the perfect time for us to stop and remember what happened on September 11th and just express to our local people how much we appreciate them,” said Ivester. “They are doing a great job. I know negative things are said, but we just want to stop and say ‘thank you’.”
The meal, which is for first responders and their families, will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the Pointe’s gym.
Then, at 6:30 p.m., the Pointe will hold a recognition and appreciation event in its sanctuary.
Ivester said the public is invited to the 6:30 p.m. service.
“It would just show (the first responders) that we really do appreciate them and we support them,” said Ivester. “If we could have several hundred people, that would be great.”
The Pointe Church is located on Highway 17 South, just south of the intersection of Big A Road and the Toccoa By-pass.
