Local Bowlers Win Scholarships

Rising Stars TournamentSome local bowlers are receiving college scholarship money.

Recently, 2015 Stephens County High School graduate Reece Ventura and 2014 Franklin County High School graduate James Young participated in a youth scholarship bowling tournament in Sunset Beach, North Carolina against bowlers from Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Ventura took first place in his division and was awarded a $1,800 college scholarship, while Young finished 2nd in his division and was awarded a $1,000 college scholarship.

Both will also receive local bowling scholarship awards this Saturday at Rose Lanes in Toccoa, along with Brady York, a 2014 Stephens County High School graduate.

The local scholarships are for $250 each.

All three participate in the Currahee USBC Youth League, a not-for profit, volunteer-managed and run bowling league for youth of Stephens and surrounding counties.
