Lions Edge Indians in Extra Innings

The Stephens County Indians’ baseball team lost a heart-breaker Thursday night in Carnesville to Franklin County, 2-1, in 9 innings.

With the score tied at one in the bottom of the ninth inning and one out, Franklin County’s Zac Hill hit a triple, followed by a game winning RBI single from Chris Leverett to bring Hill home for the winning run.

Leverett was also the winning pitcher, coming into the game in the bottom of the eighth inning in relief of Lion starting pitcher Jackson Meadors.

The Franklin County pitchers scattered four hits and the only run given up was a solo homerun by Kooper Briley, his team-leading 5th of the season.

Indian starting pitcher Gabe White also had a great night, pitching a complete game while giving up only two hits until the game-winning two hits in the 9th inning.

Franklin County’s two early hits came in the second inning on a single by Hunter Dunn and an RBI double by Walker Dunn.
Franklin County improves to 6-3 overall and will host Habersham Central in a double-header this Saturday.

Stephens County falls to 7-5 on the season.
The Indians will be on the road again today as they travel down to Elberton to play the Elbert County Blue Devils.
