Ledford Resigns From Stephens Co. BOE

The day after losing his re-election bid for another term on the Stephens County Board of Education, Jim Ledford has resigned from his school board seat.

Ledford delivered his letter of resignation to Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey on Wednesday.

His resignation is effective immediately.

In the letter, Ledford said that he appreciates the opportunity that the people of Stephens County have entrusted to him, but due to personal reasons, he says he feels it best to vacate his position.

Ledford then thanked the school system for allowing him the opportunity to work with this fine group of professionals and he then wished it the best in the years to come.

Tuesday, Ledford lost in the Republican primary for his District 3, Post 2 seat to challenger Mark Smith.

He had served one term on the Stephens County Board of Education, having been elected in 2012.

The task of filling Ledford’s seat for the remainder of his term will fall on the five remaining school board members.

This marks the third Stephens County Board of Education member to resign in five months.

Dr. Elizabeth Pinkerton resigned from the board in January and was replaced by Wendy Dawkins, who was also elected without opposition this week to serve a full four-year term on the board.

Then, Jeff Webb resigned from the board last month.

His District 2 seat remains vacant and the Stephens County Board of Education is accepting resumes from people interested in filling that seat through Friday.

District 2 covers the northern and northeastern parts of Stephens County.

Anyone interested in filling the vacant District 2 seat should send a resume and letter of interest to the Stephens County Board of Education, 191 Big A School Road, Toccoa, Ga. 30577, Attention: Bryan Dorsey
