The Lavonia Police Department and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office are both looking for a suspect in connection with a theft Monday at a Lavonia jewelry store.

Lavonia Assistant Police Chief Matt London said that it happened at about noon Monday at the Lakemont Jewelry store on Jones Street in Lavonia.

“The male suspect looked at two rings and as the store clerk was bending down to pull out another ring, the man took the two rings and fled,” he said.

London said the suspect fled on foot.

He said that officers set up a perimeter.

However, London said it is believed the suspect likely got into a vehicle and got away.

London said authorities are asking for the public’s help in locating the suspect.

He is described as in his early 20′s, Hispanic or Asian-American, wearing jeans, dark shirt and baseball cap.

Anyone with information on who the suspect might be or his whereabouts is asked to contact the Lavonia Police Department at 706-356-4848 or contact 911.

Callers do not have to give their name.
