The annual Lavonia Fall Festival returns for another year this weekend.
Sponsored by the Lavonia Chamber of Commerce, this is the 20th annual fall festival and according to Chamber President Al Goldsmith, it will be the best one yet.
“We’ve got 24 food vendors and 50 arts and crafts vendors this year,” Goldsmith said. “Our fall festival is always our biggest festival so if this year is anything like years past, we should have thousands of people coming to downtown Lavonia.”
In addition to the usual food and craft vendors, Goldsmith said that this year they will also have some new vendors that have never been to the Lavonia festival before.
“One of them is a live beehive that a guy is bringing encased in a glass trailer so people can see the bees at work,” Goldsmith said. “Then we have an artist from Toccoa who’s never been here before drawing pictures of cars and scenery.”
Entertainment this year will come from three groups, Georgia Baton, All The Right Moves, and Southern Star Cloggers.
Goldsmith said another major attraction this year will be the train rides, both big and small.
“We’ve already had a lot of calls from people wanting to ride the trains,” he said. “That’s always a big draw for us. There will be six runs Saturday and it will be $5 apiece to ride the train. Children will also get a free engineers cap. And we have a new kiddie train ride this year.”
Also new this year in the kiddie ride section are giant hamster balls.
What are those?
Well if you don’t know, you’re just going to have to come to the Lavonia Fall Festival to find out.
Again, the Lavonia Fall Festival is Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Lavonia.
