Lavonia City Council Approves Change in Street Name

A change in street name was approved in Monday’s Lavonia City Council Meeting.

The street in question was a small portion of what was known as Linton Ave. in the Lavonia City Limits. During a public hearing on Monday, City Manager Charles Cawthon explained where the portion of the street is located.

“Linton Ave currently terminates at Peachtree St, that was not always the case, it used to go all the way over to Wesleyan St.,” said Cawthon. “So a little parcel, a little portion that’s between Luckie and Wesleyan is still technically named Linton Ave., there are no addresses on that section of the street.”

The name change comes at the request of Emergency Services.

“This was brought to us by the 911 Director, brought to our attention that if someone was to have a auto accident in the middle of that street, what’s coming up on their system over there shows Linton Ave, and they can’t find them because it’s separated,” said Cawthon.

The small portion of road will be called Luckie St. Extension.

“What we decided together might be the best course of action was to rename that particular section right there Luckie St. Extension,” said Cawthon. “Now again, let me stress there are no houses located on that stretch of street and this change will not effect anybody’s addresses at all.”

The name change was approved by a unanimous vote from the Lavonia City Council.
