Last School Day for Students in Stephens Co.

Today is the final day of school for students in Stephens County.

School lets out later today for the summer vacation for the students, while teachers move into post-planning for a couple more days.

Today is also the last day of school at Eastanollee Elementary School.

Eastanollee Elementary will no longer operate as one of the county’s elementary schools after today.

School system re-structuring is consolidating what has been four elementary schools down to three starting next year.

The three remaining open are Big A, Liberty, and Toccoa Elementary.

Pre-K and Kindergarten will go to Big A; 1st and 2nd grade will be at Liberty; and 3rd and 4th grade will be at Toccoa under the new structure next year, while fifth grade students move on to Stephens County Middle School in a new “Fifth Grade Academy.”

Tuesday, Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey announced the administrative team for next year.

The principals are:

SCHS — Sandy Steele
SCMS — Joel Strickland
5th Grade Academy — Tammy Whitworth
Toccoa Elementary — Chris Colwell
Liberty Elementary — Jason Swiney
Big A Elementary — Phyllis Carson

As for graduation, plans are to have it outside on Friday at 7 p.m. at Stephens County High School, according to Principal Sandy Steele.
