Lady Indian Volleyball Getting Started

The Stephens County High School Lady Indian volleyball team starts its second year tonight.

Last night, the Lady Indians took part in a scrimmage and tonight, they start the regular season on the volleyball court at home against Rabun County and Hart County.

Head Coach Michael Thomas said the team has worked hard during the summer to prepare for this upcoming season.

“Summer has been packed,” said Thomas. “They have worked hard all summer. I think they are ready to go for our second season at the high school.”

Last year, the Lady Indian volleyball team finished with a 13-28 record playing a junior varsity schedule.

Thomas said the team is more prepared to enter this second season and he looks for improvement from year one to year two.

“We have just improved our skills,” said Thomas. “It should be a little easier this time around because we are more familiar with the game.”

Another change for the Lady Indian volleyball team is that this year, the girls will play a regular varsity schedule.

That includes competing in region play with the other Region 8-AAAA schools.

Thomas said Region 8-AAAA is very strong.

“We have Buford in our region, so they are strong,” said Thomas. “Madison County has a strong program.”

Thomas also singled out North Hall and North Oconee.

The Lady Indian volleyball regular season runs through September.

Thomas said people are encouraged to come out to the high school to watch the team in action.

“It will be $5 to get in at the gate,” said Thomas. “I look forward to a great atmosphere in the arena.”

All home matches for Lady Indian volleyball are in the Currahee Arena.

Tonight’s home match with Rabun County and Hart County all gets started at 5 p.m.
