KTSCB Wins State Award

A statewide organization recognizes Keep Toccoa-Stephens County Beautiful.

Recently, Keep Georgia Beautiful honored Keep Toccoa-Stephens County Beautiful with the Governor’s Circle Award.

KTSCB received the award officially at the State Capitol as part of the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation’s Annual Legislative Day.

The Governor’s Circle Award recognizes exemplary performance by certified affiliates in reducing litter, minimizing waste, and greening local communities.

Keep Toccoa-Stephens County Beautiful Executive Director Linda Scofield said it is exciting to receive this state award for the second time.

“It is showing our community and the state that we are working hard to make our community bigger, better, beautiful, and we have been working hard at it for a couple of years now,” said Scofield. “This is really a big deal to us.”

To qualify for the Governor’s Circle Award, affiliates must be in good standing with Keep America Beautiful; conduct an annual litter index; calculate the affiliates’ cost-benefit ratio; and engage volunteers to take greater responsibility for their community environment.

Also, the affiliate must be an active member of the Georgia network.

Georgia is the first state in the Keep America Beautiful network to create a Governor’s Circle Award modeled on Keep America Beautiful’s national good standing designation.

Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation Executive Director Sarah Visser said the affiliates receiving the Governor’s Circle Award represent the best kind of community improvement efforts.

Visser added those affiliates are doing the hard work every day to keep their communities economically vibrant and environmentally sustainable.
