KTSCB Wins Awards

Keep Toccoa-Stephens County Beautiful is the recipient of a couple of statewide awards.

First, Keep Georgia Beautiful recognized Stephens County as a recipient of the Governor’s Circle Award last month.

K-T-S-C-B Executive Director Linda Scofield said the award recognizes the efforts of local chapters throughout the course of the year.

“It is the affiliates of Keep Georgia Beautiful that are in good standing, which means that we hold a certain amount of events and educational programs throughout the course of the year, and that our reporting is in, our photos are in,” said Scofield.

Also, Rivers Alive in Georgia is honoring Keep Toccoa-Stephens County Beautiful with an award later this month.

Rivers Alive has announced that Keep Toccoa-Stephens County Beautiful is the 2014 Keep Georgia Beautiful Award winner.

Scofield said she is excited to receive the award, which recognizes the annual clean-up efforts done locally as part of the statewide Rivers Alive cleanup event.

“Each year, we go up to Yonah Dam, we do the Panther Creek area and also the boat landing area on Highway 123,” said Scofield of their yearly local Rivers Alive efforts. “Apparently, they thought we did a very good job and I was very pleased to hear that.”

She said this is the first time that K-T-S-C-B has won an award from Rivers Alive.

Overall, Scofield said the awards are a testimony to the hard work put in by so many people on a regular basis.

“It is actually the community participating, getting these awards,” said Scofield. “The community is out there doing the work, the volunteers (are), making this a more beautiful place to live.”

Scofield added that it is exciting to see the organization honored at the state level.
