Jarrell Urges Caution on Roads for Christmas

Local law enforcement agencies are urging safety as drivers hit the roadways this holiday season.

Both the Toccoa Police Department and Stephens County Sheriff’s Office will be out on the roadways, watching out for aggressive drivers and also those who are drinking and driving.

Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell said that people going to holiday parties or otherwise celebrating the season need to remember to put safety first.

“We would like to remind everyone not to drink and drive,” said Jarrell. “If you are going to be out celebrating the holidays with an alcoholic beverage, we would like to remind you to have a designated driver.”

Jarrell went on to say that all drivers need to pay extra attention over the holidays to help ensure that everyone traveling has a safe and happy holiday.

“We would like to also remind everyone to be mindful of their own driving behaviors,” said Jarrell. “Aggressive driving behavior is also a contributing factor to accidents. If you are planning to travel during the holiday season, we ask you to leave early to leave plenty of time to travel. Be mindful of other drivers.”

Jarrell also reminded people to buckle up when getting in the car and if small children are traveling, make sure they are in a proper child safety seat.
