Jarrell: Toccoa Still Top Priority While Helping Mt. Airy

Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell is helping out a Habersham County town in the absence of its police chief.

Jarrell is serving as the Interim, Part-Time Chief in the town of Mt. Airy while its Chief, Corey Allen, is reportedly on administrative leave.

According to Jarrell, he was contacted last week about filling the post on a temporary basis and he received permission to do so from both Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse and the Toccoa City Commission.

Jarrell said his duties in Mt. Airy will be mainly administrative.

“I am to ensure that officers are scheduled to work when they are supposed to be at work, that I serve as a liaison for the town of Mt. Airy in the Georgia Chiefs Association, that all state and federal-mandated paperwork is done and submitted accordingly,” said Jarrell.

Jarrell will still serve as Toccoa Police Chief.

He said that both the city of Toccoa and the town of Mt. Airy understand that his top priority remains the city of Toccoa and the operations of the Toccoa Police Department.

“It is known between all parties that any administrative assistance or duties given to the town of Mt. Airy will not interfere with my full-time obligations and responsibilities to the city of Toccoa,” said Jarrell. “I will continue working my 45-plus hours a week. I will still be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week and until I am contacted during my on-call time and told I need to come back, I will be assisting the town of Mt. Airy.”

Jarrell said that he just sees this as a chance for him to give back to the town he called home for many years.

“Mt. Airy is where I grew up,” said Jarrell. “I have family that is there. I have several friends that still live in the area. It is a neighboring city. They need help and because of my connection with the town, I wanted to do something for my town.”

He said that he has no intention of leaving his position as Chief of the Toccoa Police Department.

“The city of Toccoa has been good to me,” said Jarrell. “I could not ask for a better place to work.”

Jarrell said he expects to assist the town of Mt. Airy in this interim chief’s role for no more than a couple of months.
