The search continues for the next Stephens County School Superintendent.
This past weekend, the Stephens County Board of Education interviewed candidates for the position.
The board met again Tuesday in executive session.
Stephens County Board of Education Chairperson Dr. Elizabeth Pinkerton said that the board is making progress in finding a replacement for retiring Superintendent Sherrie Whiten.
“The board has interviewed five applicants so far,” said Dr. Pinkerton. “We are seeking more information right now. No one has been eliminated from consideration. We do hope one, two, or three finalists very soon.”
The school board started the search process with 31 applications for the position before narrowing it down to the candidates it wanted to interview.
Whiten is retiring from her position as Stephens County School Superintendent effective Monday.
Last month, the Board of Education unanimously voted to appoint current Assistant Superintendent Jason Kaup as the Interim Superintendent effective following Whiten’s retirement next week.
