The Stephens County High School Interact Club is putting together its second annual kickball tournament.
This year’s tournament is Saturday, March 15, starting at 10 a.m., at the Stephens County Recreation Department Rose Lane ball fields.
The Interact Club is a service club at Stephens County High School sponsored by the Stephens County Rotary Club.
Club Advisor Derek Demmler said the club uses this event to raise funds to help many different local and international groups.
“This is our big (fundraiser),” said Demmler. “The kickball tournament was our first main event last year and it is one that we had a lot of fun with and a lot of people said it was awesome and we had to do it again, so we are going to make this a staple of our fundraising in the Spring.”
Demmler said sign-ups are underway now for teams that want to play in this year’s tournament.
He said it is as simple as someone joining up with 10 other people of high school age or older to make a team.
“A team this year is 11 members minimum,” said Demmler. “We are asking for $12 a player this year and $2 of every registration fee goes to the Norris family fund that the Interact Club has been working with this past year to benefit a student over here at the high school.”
Demmler added that some of the proceeds from the tournament will also benefit the Stephens County Recreation Department.
“We partnered with them to help bring money in for some of their programs and scholarships for kids being able to participate in their programs,” said Demmler.
Other organizations will also benefit from the kickball tournament and associated events that day, including the Toccoa-Stephens County Boys and Girls Club, Polio Plus, and Heifer International.
Demmler said the Chevrolet Drive for Perfection program will also be there, offering test drives and donating money as a result towards yet another organization.
“That money will be going towards Shelterbox, which is an international organization that takes tents and utilities and supplies for a family of ten to survive in natural or manmade disasters,” said Demmler.
Registration packets for the March 15 kickball tournament are available at the Recreation Department offices or by e-mailing the Stephens County High School Interact Club at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Registration forms are due back to the Recreation Department offices by March 10.
