The Georgia State Patrol released information Monday on a multi-car accident on Georgia Highway 17 in Stephens County on Friday.
The three-vehicle accident occurred just north of Whispering Pines Road on Highway 17 Friday just before 3 p.m.
According to the GSP, a 2010 Kia Forte driven by Clinton Roberson, 77, of Lavonia was traveling south on Highway 17 and negotiating a curve when it crossed the centerline and struck a 2004 Ford Explorer being driven by Cathy Hargrove, 48, of Toccoa that was traveling north on Highway 17.
Hargrove’s vehicle then spun off the roadway, struck an embankment, and overturned before coming to rest, the GSP said.
Authorities then said that a piece of debris from the accident then struck a third vehicle, a 2002 Chevy Silverado driven by Karl Varnes, 52, of Lavonia.
According to the GSP, Roberson and Hargrove were both taken by helicopter to Greenville Memorial Hospital.
On Monday, the hospital listed Roberson in good condition, but said that no information was available on Hargrove.
Two passengers in Hargrove’s vehicle, Samantha Neal, 22, of Martin and a 5-year-old, were both taken to Stephens County Hospital, said authorities, who said that the driver of the third vehicle, Varnes, was not injured.
Authorities indicated that no charges or citations have been filed as of yet.
