Indians, Wolves Play Tonight for Region Title

A region football title is on the line tonight when Stephens County travels south to face Buford.

The Wolves and Indians will square off at 7:30 p.m. in Buford with the winner of the game claiming the Region 8-AAAA championship.

Stephens County enters the game with an 8-1 overall record and a region record of 6-0 after beating North Oconee last week, 24-7, on the strength of 17 fourth-quarter points.

Meanwhile, Buford is also 8-1 on the year and 6-0 in the region after beating Madison County last Friday, 49-8.

The Wolves enter tonight’s game ranked third in the state in Class AAAA football and are also the defending Region champions and three-time defending state champions in their classification.

Stephens County Assistant Coach Kirk Rogers said that the Indians are ready for the challenge that the Wolves present.

“We are excited,” said Rogers. “We have a lot of buzz about us. We are not afraid. We are ready. I think our kids are ready to go down and step up to the challenge. We are going to give them our best shot and let them know who we are.”

Not only does the winner of tonight’s game claim the region title, but also will be the top seed from Region 8 in the AAAA playoffs starting next week.

Whoever loses tonight’s game will enter the playoffs as a number two seed.
