Indians Will Be #2 Seed in State Baseball Tourney

April 29, 2013

The Georgia High School Association reports that Stephens County will enter the state baseball playoffs as the second seed out of Region 8-AAAA.

That means that the Indians will play the third seeded team from Region 5-AAAA in a best-of-three series at the Reservation this week. The current online GHSA playoff bracket does not list who that team is.

Stephens County and Eastside finished the regular season as co-region champions, each with a 13-3 region record.

The tiebreaker in Region 8-AAAA is the record against the third place team. Walnut Grove defeated Lanier Friday 16-2 to finish third in the region.

Stephens County went 1-1 against Walnut Grove, while Eastside defeated Walnut Grove twice, giving the edge to Eastside.

The Indians ended up in a tie with Eastside after Madison County scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Stephens County 5-4 in Danielsville Friday night.

Stephens County finishes the regular season 18-5 overall and 13-3 in region play.
