The Stephens County Indian football team heads back on the road for a crucial game in the playoff chase.
Stephens County travels to Covington tonight to face Eastside in a Region 8-AAAA contest.
Last week, the Indians fell to Lanier 31-14 to fall back to 4-4 on the season overall and 2-3 in region play.
Meanwhile, Eastside defeated Walnut Grove last week by a 42-14 score.
The Eagles enter tonight 5-3 overall and 3-2 in region play.
Tonight’s winner will have the inside track on fourth place in the region and a spot in the state AAAA playoffs.
Stephens County JV Football Coach Greg McCall said Eastside is a tough test for the Indians.
“Obviously, it is going to be a long trip for us,” said McCall. “Eastside is very talented with athletes all over the field. We are just going to have to hunker down and play well on defense, put some points on the board early, and do what we can do.”
Kick-off from Covington tonight is set for 7:30 p.m.
Coverage begins at 6 p.m. on AM 630 WNEG with Tommy Palmer’s Countdown to Kickoff. At 7 p.m., it is Coach’s Corner, while pre-game coverage from the stadium starts at 7:15 p.m.
In other Region 8-AAAA action tonight, Chestatee visits Monroe Area for the region championship, while Lanier is at Lumpkin County and Walnut Grove hosts Madison County.
Elsewhere around the area, Habersham Central hosts Mill Creek, Franklin County visits East Jackson, and Hart County is at Morgan County.
