The Stephens County Indians Baseball team will begin play in the first round of the Class AAAA State Playoffs this afternoon with a double-header when they travel down to Marist High School in Atlanta to take on the War Eagles. StephensCounty ended the regular season with an overall record of 18 & 7 and a region mark of 11 & 5. The Indians are the number 4 seeded team from Region 8 and will play Marist, the number 1 team from Region 6. The War Eagles have an overall record of 22 & 3 and a perfect 13 & 0 record in the Region and, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, are the number one team in the state in Class AAAA.
Indians Head Baseball Coach Greg McCall says “the kids are excited about being in the State Playoffs for the second year in a row. We’re looking forward to the challenge to go down to Marist. They’ve got some strong pitching—they’ve got both lefty and righty pitching. They put the ball into play well; and when they get on the bases, they like to do a lot so small ball. They like to lay the bunt down and run the bases.”
AM-630 WNEG and wnegradio.com will broadcast both games—first pitch for game one is scheduled for 4 p.m. with airtime at 3:45.
If a third game is necessary, it will be played at Marist Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
