The Stephens County Indian football team wraps up the regular season tonight on the road.
The Indians will travel to Dahlonega to face the Lumpkin County Indians in a Region 8-AAAA game.
Stephens County is 7-2 on the season and 4-2 in the region, having clinched a state playoff berth with last week’s 23-7 win over Eastside, coupled with Lumpkin County’s 24-7 loss to Lanier.
Lumpkin County is 2-7 overall on the year and 2-4 in the region.
Last year, these two teams played in Toccoa and Stephens County won 40-7 as Chaz Thornton ran for more than 200 yards last year.
Stephens County Wide Receivers Coach Andrew Stamey said that despite Lumpkin County’s record, they are not a team to be overlooked.
“We preach and preach that the most important game is the next one on the schedule and that is what these guys are and they are better than a 2-7 team, definitely,” said Stamey.
Kick-off tonight from Dahlonega is set for 7:30 p.m.
Coverage begins on AM 630 WNEG at 6 p.m. with Tommy Palmer’s Countdown to Kickoff. Coach’s Corner starts at 7 p.m. with pre-game coverage starting at 7:15 p.m.
In other Region 8-AAAA action this evening, Eastside hosts Monroe Area, Chestatee visits Madison County, and Lanier travels to Walnut Grove.
Elsewhere in northeast Georgia this evening, Franklin County ends its season by hosting Elbert County, while Hart County goes for a region title when it travels to take on North Oconee. Habersham Central ended its season last week.
