Indians Tame Wildcats in Tiger, 13-7

A big fourth inning propels the Stephens County Indians to a non-region baseball win over Rabun County.

After giving up an early lead and falling behind Rabun County, 5-3 after three innings, Stephens County sent 12 men to the plate in the top of the fourth and scored seven runs to take a 10-5 lead on the way to a 13-7 win in Tiger on Monday night.

Kooper Briley had the big hit in the fourth with a bases clearing double to put Stephens County on top for good.

Rabun County inched within three runs at 10-7 in the bottom of the fourth, but relief pitcher Zack Boyd pitched out of a bases loaded, no out jam to preserve a lead that the Indians would not give up again.

Stephens County had 15 hits against four Wildcat pitchers.

Briley had three RBIs to pace the Indian offense, while Bryson Fowler and Zack Boyd each had two RBIs for Stephens County. Kole Rogers also had three runs scored and an RBI.

Boyd picked up the win on the mound in relief of Indian starter Dylan Simpson, allowing just two runs over the final 4 1/3 innings.

Dax Edwards took the loss in relief for Rabun County, allowing five runs in 2/3 of an inning.

With the win, Stephens County moves to 3-4 on the season, while Rabun County is still searching for its first win at 0-5.

The Indians are back in action on Wednesday at home against Hart County.

First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. with air time set for about 5:20 p.m. on AM 630 WNEG and wnegradio.com.
